The Thameside Mummers

I put up a photo post on Wednesday 27th May, as part of the 'Beyond Blogging for Scrapbooking' project. The idea was to post photos taken throughout a single day (Monday 25th April) and blog them with no words, just a link to a list of other photo posts following the same project. I had many comments asking me about the men in dresses!

We were travelling from Suffolk to Kent on Monday and the traffic was very bad so we took a diversion off the A12 and stopped for lunch at The Ferryboat Inn. While waiting for the food to arrive we observed a few men dressing up and they came round giving out leaflets about 'The Thameside Mummers', just before putting on a play.

We were able to watch from the side where we were seated eating lunch.
The tradition of Mummers can be traced back as far as
Ancient Greece, when groups of strolling players would call at private houses and perform a short play, of a mythical or historical tale, or a story of wooing and love, in return for food and drink. The visit was associated with bringing good luck to the household and fertility to the land by their praise of the Ancient Gods.

Beyond Blogging for Scrapbookers - Day 1 & a Poll

Hello, What a beautiful day!
Look at these lovely Easter treats our neighbour Amanda made for us:

Thank you Amanda. x

Beyond Blogging for Scrapbookers

I thought it would be good to update my blog and see if I can make any improvements, I have been thinking of this for a while when an email from Shimelle dropped into my mail box advertising a new three week class 'Beyond Blogging for Scrapbookers' I was thrilled (mind reading!).  This class follows on from the successful 'Blogging for Scrapbookers' class where I learnt so much last year.

Although I'm a few days late getting this started, I have three weeks to learn even more about blogging my favourite pastimes. I plan to work through at my own pace as time and other commitments allow, supporting and gaining help from all the other members of the class. I hope to make 'A Moment in Time' a more interesting, brighter and better place for you, my readers to visit.  So to get this started, the class today suggests asking you, my readers for some help and advice. Please feel free to comment telling me what you think of the blog.

So will you help me?!   Pretty please!
Some of you readers I know well, others I have never met in person and maybe never will - I hear from quite a few of you, and thank you for your lovely comments - but I would like to know if you find what you want to read about on this blog.  That's why I'm trying something completely new today - I'm having a poll. It's not difficult, so I hope you'll read on and tick just one box for me. No names are required, so if you don' want to give your name that's just fine, you can still join in. Every answer means a lot and I'd love to hear from you.

If you do have something you would like to say in addition to the poll, please leave a comment as well, even if it's just to say hi, every comment is really appreciated. I would be even more pleased if you chose to follow my blog.

So here goes a poll to find out what you like about my blog and would like to see more of in the future.

Thank you, looking forward to seeing what you have to say!

Happy Birthday Sharon!

It's Sharon's birthday today and I sent her a card following the Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge for This week.

It's a Bingo challenge!! You take a look at the bingo card (below) and pick a row, vertically, horizontally or diagonally and include those three items on your card!! FUN!!!

I picked the middle, vertical row, and used buttons, lace and dry embossing. Then I also used a die cut and  gems! With a Kimmie stamp of course. Great fun. Take a look at the KK bog and join in.

Happy birthday Sharon, see you next week.

Joan and Cyril's Wedding

This is the second layout I made at Carolyn's Stampin' Up one day retreat on Saturday.

This is a photo of Joan and Cyril's wedding from c1940 at our local church St. Paulinus. I need to find out who the other people are before I add the journalling. I know the two smaller bridesmaids are Alan's sister Marion and his cousin Carol. The journalling will go on the green striped paper. I cut the title on my Cricut in three layers.

The papers, buttons and ribbon are from Springtime Vintage collection.

Will show the mini album once it's complete.

Simply Me!

Back again with more news of the one day retreat at Carolyn's house.

This is one of the two layouts we made during the day. I chose to use this photo of myself. It was taken by my father not long after my triplets were born. I am sitting the the new rocking chair in the nursery (where I spent many hours in those early days!). I haven't added a title to this page, but I did journal my name and the date of the photo.

The papers, ribbon and buttons are all from the Springtime Vintage range. The tiny flower stamped in pink is from the Itty Bitty Bits stamp set (included in our kit). The blue flowers and leaves are a vine from the Vintage Vogue set. I stamped my blue flowers onto the page and then again onto spare cream card, cutting these out and adding them with 3d foam pads to raise them off the page.
There are pearls on my blue flowers and twine in my buttons.

Thanks again Carolyn

A Box of Cards

Linda and I traveled to Carolyn's house on Saturday for a one day Stampin' Up retreat. We had a lovely day and were well looked after, with refreshments throughout the day. Carolyn had made us a little goody bag decorated with a daisy and filled with a chocolate bunny and a ribbon broach. During the day we made a mini album to be decorated later, two layouts and a box of cards.
These are is the delightful gift bags with chocolate and brooch.

Our kit contained items from the gorgeous Springtime Vintage collection of papers and accessories, along with peals, twine and lots of cardstock in coordinating colours. Look at the lovely bag of buttons and the reel of seam binding ribbon! Although Carolyn taught us she had thoughtfully put together detailed instructions and these were bound in a folder, which means we will be able to make things again without difficulty and with all the measurements.

Here we are working away on one of the projects.

Here is the box and contents of six cards we made in the afternoon.

Notice Board

I wrote a post about my notice board I made from a very large canvas at the beginning of last year. Last summer I made a second, not so large for the kitchen. This time I covered the canvas with wadding and fabric, before adding ribbon with brads.

Thanks for looking.

Ooh La La

I had the project of the month Kit 'Ooh La La' from Craftwork Cards a few months ago and only just had a play with it. I really like the papers in this pack and had go at one of the projects included.

There will be more of these to follow.
Tanks for looking.

Up, Up & Away!

Here is another layout created at Debden. Andrew at Chessington's Beano World, before, during and after this ride. He wasn't expecting to get this wet! It was a lovely ward day for October, which was just as well.

Kept this one quite simple, as I wanted to include all three photos.
Patterned papers are from Basic Grey.
Letter stickers in title are Basic grey and American Craft Thickers from various sets.
Rub on letters for sub titles are Doodlebug Designs.

Seaside Style 1963

I love this photo, another one scanned from a colour slide. My mother and me on holiday at St. Mary's Bay. I love the way she was dressed for the beach in this beautiful stylish dress and bolero she made herself. Topped off with a straw sun hat.

I created this layout with the left over Girls Paperie patterned paper scraps from the April Scrapology layout. Just added a sheet of Dotted Swiss Bazzill for the background, tow decorative pins a little ribbon and a brown luggage label. I used various sizes of retro daisy punches. The Technique Tuesday banner stamp was used in a similar way to previously. The Cricut was used for the title.

Thanks for looking.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy mother's day to all you Mums.

I saw this Mouse House Designs stamp (We're "Mint Tea" Be Together) ages ago and knew I had to buy it to make a card for my lovely Mum (known to many of you as Mrs Potts).

The stamp is from The Craft Barn and was coloured with Promarkers.
The papers are Basic Grey's Kioshi.
The Card is from Craftwork Cards.

Detail of the sugar cubes sparkled up with stickles.

Happy Mother's Day Mum xXxXx

We had a lovely Day, my brother and Elaine brought Mum and Dad over for lunch. Catherine was home for the weekend and was here with her boyfriend. Emily arrived home for the Easter break yesterday. We missed Andrew who has another two weeks at Uni before he can come home for a break.

We were still celebrating ACE's 19th birthday as well as Mother's Day.

Cup cakes

Cath and Emily with cake.

I was spoilt with lots of gifts. Thank you all very much x
