Touring Scotland with the EV - Day 10

Day 10 (Monday, 11th October)

A visit to Broadford today in search of a craft shop called 'The Handspinner Having Fun'.
A wonderful shop full of hand spun and dyed wool as well as hand knitted gifts. The owner, Bev Scholefiled told me about her work and showed me all different types of wool and patterns .

Touring Scotland with the EV - Day 9

Day 9 (Monday, 10th October)

A trip to Armadale today at the southern end of the Sleat Peninsular where there is a ferry terminal to Mallaig on the mainland, we decided it might be a good idea to go home via this ferry rather than retracing our steps over the bridge when the time comes, it also takes us further south.

Touring Scotland with the EV - Day 8

Day 8 (Sunday, 9th October)

Travelled to Portree the main town on Skye today as we wanted to have a look around, but also needed to find the chargers there, this would make or break our being able to travel on to Harris next week. It's a bit like a treasure hunt, searching for the chargers on the Zap-Map app on the phone, using maps and/or the Sat Nav in the car and spotting the pump when you arrive at the post code! As you can see from the photo below we found the pump and it was working! There is also another in the same town so we knew we could continue with our plans.

We found The Granary a coffee shop & restaurant where we were able to enjoy lunch outside.

We stopped at a pretty spot called Sligachan on the route back to the cottage. It is very popular with photographers, artists and walkers.

We also visited a place called Isleornsay which is near the turn off to the long and winding, narrow, single track road to our cottage.

Touring Scotland with the EV - Day 7

Day 7 (Saturday, 8th October)

From Loch Ness we headed west towards The Isle of Skye where we had booked a self catering cottage at Ord for the next week.

The total journey for the day was about 85 miles and with a fully charged car we knew we had no problem, but hoped to top the car up at Shiel Bridge near Loch Duich and not far from the Skye Bridge. However this charge point was not working, so we pressed on knowing there was another on Skye at Broadford. This charge point had not been connected to the system yet so we did some food shopping and drove on to our accommodation, where we had arranged with the owner to be able to charge the car.

MacGregor Cottage, Ord was to be our home for the week. Such a remote and peaceful place to spend a week. Sheep and cows are everywhere on the grassy/rocky hillocks and there are some amazing views surrounding the cottage and beyond. The cottage  has a Scandinavian feel inside as it is wood lined throughout with it's open-plan living area. Follow the link to see photos of the inside.

It was great to know we had a week at one base and not to need to get up early to move on.

Touring Scotland with the EV - Day 6

Day 6 (Friday, 7th October)

Nearly at the end of our first eventful week travelling to and around Scotland. Today we left the most comfortable B&B yet (not that we have had a bad one). Over breakfast of scrambled egg with smoked salmon the owners of Sealladh Sona (peaceful View) explained they had been visited only the day before by the undercover hotel inspector and retained their four star rating.

We drove down the west bank of Loch Ness to Drumnadrochit, just 15 miles away, stopping to take photos on route.

An interesting few hours in the Loch Ness Centre and Exhibition, we had coffee in the  hotel there looking out over Loch Ness.

We took a little drive out to Glen Urquhart passing Loch Meiklie, and these are some of the locals!

Back into Drumnadrochit to the Information Centre and car park to charge the car. We did have a problem with the charger here, luckily we were able to charge at the next B&B, but we would have had enough to get us to the next charge point on route to Skye the next day.

Another excellent B & B, with a great room and friendly staff -Woodlands Guest House.
From here we walked to The Loch Ness Inn Hotel and Restaurant for an evening meal.

Touring Scotland with the EV - Day 5

Day 5 (Thursday, 6th October)

85 miles from one B & B to another today, with some interesting stops and beautiful scenery along the way. Our first stop for a charge was the car park behind a cafe we visited last year. Tomintoul in the Moray area claims to be the highest village in the Highlands. We charged here while we had coffee in The Old Fire Station. There are some really lovely gift shops here too - selling all sorts of local hand made goodies.

We aimed to stop off at Culloden if possible on this trip as we had not been able to do this last time, and the weather was ideal for walking around the war graves. My kind of history, I remember studying all this at school too. I have  enjoyed many books set in the period - especially enjoying the Outlander books by Diana Gabaldon. We looked at all the exhibits inside the Exhibition centre and then moved outside to the battlefields - and so quite a few photos now follow:

Leanach Cottage
We were able to eat outside the restaurant before moving on towards Inverness, and our next B&B Sealladh Sona beside the Caledonian Canal. A very well presented guest house where we were again made very welcome to our comfortable home for the night.

Caledonian Canal
Late afternoon we took a walk along the canal.
Caledonian Canal
Then crossed the River Ness over the footbridge and on into Inverness.

Next we will share Loch Ness.
