Happy Birthday Andrew

I had the Cricut out for this card I made for my son Andrew's birthday last month.

I purchased a digi image set for the Crisut and resized and cut the pieces in cream, grey and black Bazzill cardstock. The background paper is from Basic Grey's Basics collection. From red card I made a card blank and matted the chess board.
Each of the little black squares had to be stuck down individually, but the cream board has little score marks to help make positioning easy and accurate.
The greeting is from Crafter's Compainon and cut in silver miri board.
To finish I added a few shiny black gems.

Happy Birthday Andrew!

Cards with Crayons

Some time ago I was asked to make two brightly coloured birthday cards - So I decided to use the my Tim Holtz Distress Crayons.

I chose to use set one as this has a lively collection of colour - Picked raspberry, spiced marmalade, mustard seed, twisted citron, mermaid lagoon and peacock feathers. I also used several Tim Holtz Layering Stencils.

I applied a layer of white Gesso over the surface of my white card and allowed this to air dry. Then I scribbled with the crayons randomly over the gesso, working small areas of each colour. I placed each stencil where the pattern was required and rubbed some colour off using a damp cloth.

Once this was dry, I trimmed each piece to fit my card blanks and mounted them onto black mount. I cut greetings and an image using dies and more black card.

More Fun with JOFY Paperartsy Stamps

A second post for March on the Papermaze blog was all about using more JOFY stamps and another IKEA product.

I had a few old KNUFF magazine folders left empty when I sorted out some craft magazines. These were looking a bit tatty so I decided to treat them to the same technique as the bead chest I decorated at the beginning of the month.

Please see the original post on the Papermaze blog for details of how to make the project and the products used.

More to come at a later date:

First Swing

First Swing is the title of this layout I designed for the March Papermaze Crop Kit. It features a photo of my cousin's baby granddaughter on her first visit to the park.

The papers used in this design are all from Kaisercraft's Ubud Dreams collection, I love the colours and designs of these papers. I used some machine stitching, stenciling and paper piecing.

All the items used on the page are available from Vanessa at Papermaze and include punches from EK success and Martha Stewart, dies from Sizzix and Memory box, a stencil by Tim Holtz, Burlap, Acrylic Paint, Liquid PEarls, Flat-backed pearls, Stencils and Bazzill cardstock.

Fun with PaperArtsy (JOFY) Stamps

I have been having fun with my JOFY PaperArtsy Stamps, for this month's post on the Papermaze blog.  I decorated this IKEA - MOPPE box for all my beads and jewellery making tools - I had a sort through all my beads and once organised I was able to fit them into the mini chest of drawers. My box was old and in need of attention so I decided to decorate it.

Here is my finished box - the main stages of this project are available on the Papermaze blog.

New Home

One of the exciting events of last summer was my daughter and her boyfriend buying and moving into their own home. This is the second of my layouts using the January kit from Merly Impressions and the Kaisercraft Ubud Dreams collection of papers. These papers have such lovely designs and colours.

This photo was taken on the evening they moved in and we all met up for a small celebration before all the hard work began! They had both worked very hard over the last few years meaning that they saw little of one-another at times, however this made it possible for them to save for their deposit.

Again I made a few changes to Chrissy's lovely original design.
I used machine stitching rather than hand stitching and my title was made with some old K & Co. alphabet stickers. I also added some resin flowers from my stash.

Catherine and George are currently working on the bathroom, having transformed the bedroom and with help from many members of the family cleared tons of rubbish and jungle from the neglected garden.

Fish and Chips

The first of two layouts created using the January kit from Merly Impressions. The layouts were designed by Chrissy and I have added a few twists of my own. The design is created with the Ubud Dreams collection from Kaisercraft.

The photo was taken last last year shows my dad with my brother on their last visit to Wickham Bay, a lovely fish restaurant, near where they live in West Wickham. This restaurant has been decorated with weathered wooden panels and tiles which are an exact match for these papers! - You can just about see the tiles in the photo.

The main difference in my layout to Chrissy's lovely original was missing out the fussy cutting flowers as they were not really appropriate to my theme. I also gutted the centre from the frames and added my own centres. I created the wording on the computer and printed them onto some scraps of patterned paper to fit inside the frames. I machine stitched around the edges of the papers using a navy blue thread rather than the hand stitching suggested.

Thanks for the design Chrissy - it has made a lovely memory for us of our dad.
Back with the next one tomorrow.
