I'm over on the Scrap Paper Scissors Blog today with two design team layouts I have created using the pretty October Papermaze Kit. Each of these layouts feature different events, but both are made using papers and elements from 49 and Market. Here is the first of the pair - titled DIY -This layout shows my daughter helping us decorate the cart lodge at our new home.

Blinky the Owl

Here is my first layout using the pretty Papermaze kit for April. There is a lovely range of colours, purples, pinks, greens and blues in this month's selection.  I have been experimenting with Distress Watercolour Pencils.

I have used this photo of myself with Blinky the owl, from a trip to Hall Place Gardens and the Jamb Owl Centre in Bexley.

The Dotty about Flair challenge #19 was a sketch (see below). The Peartree Cutfile challenge was to pear up a cutfile with stitching.

Up-cycling Furniture - Before & After

I inherited an old sewing box, which doubles as an occasional table, but it was in a rough state. The lining fabric was falling apart and the woodwork had also seen better days. As I felt this could be a useful piece I took it apart and sanded it down.

BEFORE

I used Duck Egg Rust-Oleum Chalky Effect Matt Furniture Paint to cover the wood areas and then distressed them back with sand paper and added some chalk inks in a darker teal colour. Once this was all completely dry I finished it off by rubbing the surface with Clear Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax. The paint and wax were supplied by Kent Blaxill, Melton.

AFTER

The next job was hunting out some lining fabric for the lining, and I made a pattern using the old fabric I had removed. Making a new cardboard support for the fabric took a while but was well worth getting right before covering with the new material. Lots of upholstery tacks held it all in place before finishing off with a contrasting braid.

I was able to clean up the old hinges, but purchased two new knobs for the drawer. I chose small faceted glass knobs from Knobbles and Bobbles Ltd.

The drawer is lined with some Basic Grey Scrapbooking paper.

Heart Pouch Gifts for East PArk

We have just had another great weekend away with the crafting friends to Easthampstead Park Conference Centre. Lovely company, and we get fed and looked after too. 

Traditionally we make one-another a small gift to take along to the event.

This year I made these little heart shaped, zip-up pouches. I found the pattern on Pinterest.

Once made they were filled with chocolates, ready for the weekedn.

I received lots of lovey gifts too, many thanks girls.

Butterfly Mug Bag

This is the Butterfly Mug Bag I made Anita for her birthday this year. A design from Red Brolly, which I downloaded from the internet. I purchased a pretty fine bone china mug and set about selecting fabrics to compliment it. A great idea for those of us who go to retreats and like to take out own mug, carefully protected it it's own little bag with a few of our favourite tea bags hidden away in the inside pocket.

In addition to fabrics, interfacing ans wadding, I selected three buttons and a length of ribbon to make a fastening on the front.

I had fun making selecting materials and making this for my friend.

Nature Study x 3

In the end I created this layout three times, all slightly different. This first one uses a photograph of my cousin's daughter Rosie photographing the poppies on holiday in Tenby last summer.

This one will go into Rosie's album and was my initial design for the Papermaze crop kit.

This is the version for the Papermaze Crop kit for August, made up for the crop using papers and products from the shop.

I chose the patterned paper for it's blue pattern, but love the floral pattern on the reverse and wondered how it would work with a black and white photo - here is the result:

For the last version I cut the word 'Study' using the Cricut from black cardstock and inked the white letters with black ink to make them stand out.

Dublin 2014

We had a 12 hour crop at Cardinal Colours last weekend with a great set of crafty girls. I made up some kits to work on during the day and I used a Page Map as a source of inspiration for this one.

The photos were taken by Alan of Catherine and me, when we first arrived in Dublin last summer. We were exploring the city along by the River Liffey - such a lovely day.

Craftilicious Carry All - Mark IV

I made Linda a Craftilicious Carry All bag for her birthday last month. She had requested one for her sewing things.

My first attempt is here - This is the bag I use for my stitching items. Then I made one for Catherine in pink and black as requested for taking on tour as Deputy Stage Manager. This was closely followed by a woodland animal one for Emily's sewing things.

Here is Linda's Craftilicious Carry All:

To go with the bag I made Linda another of my scrap bags, she already has two but it's useful to keep one with the sewing machine for pins and threads as you sew.

Then I found a pattern for pattern cutting weights so made these from some scraps lined them with calico and filled them with sand.

Linda couldn't be at out Cardinal Colours Christmas crop this year where my gift to all my scrappy friends was a hand made gift bag filled with Christmas Chocolates, however she will receive her bag when I next see her. I made it in the same fabrics as the other items as I thought it might be useful to hold ribbons or something within the bigger bag.
