St. James' Park

52 Walks with my Camera in 2010 - Week 24
Elephant and Castle - St James' Park - Trafalgar Square - The Strand.

This week I had to travel to Denmark Hill to visit someone in King's College Hospital. When I had finished there I hopped on a bus to Elephant and Castle and took a photo of the Elephant on Parade there.

This is Elephant #6 called 'Forever Birds'.  The artist is Anchalee Intorn, the sponsor is St. Modwen Properties and is situated outside the St. Modwen Shopping Centre, Elephant and Castle.

I took a photo of the original and old elephant which stands high above the traffic at the shopping centre.

Then I traveled by tube to St. James' Park Underground station. I walked through Queen Ann's Gate into Birdcage Walk...

Then on into the park itself, passing by this statue.

I walked into the park and across the bridge over the lake. This is the view towards Buckingham Palace.

These two photos show the views to the opposite end of the park towards the Thames and the London Eye.

Here is another view of life in the park on a hot summer's day.

I found four more elephants in the park.
This one is # 203 and called 'Grayson', the artist is Polly Hope and this elly needs to be adopted as she has no sponsor. Here is another view of Grayson:

The next Ellie is here.

Elephant # 85 called 'Sans Merci' painted by Cynthia Bernheim.  This ellie also needs adopting. The two sides of this fanta are quite different.

Then there was this colourful ellie:

Ellie # 42 'Lahu Girl' painted by Yodsaran Chaidunggkaew, She needs adopting.

The last ellie in the park is this one:

# 239 This one is untitled and painted by Stephen Walter. The elephant needs adopting.

After sitting in the park for a while I walked out onto The Mall...

and through Admiralty Arch....
into Trafalgar Square - All looking so different to my last visit a few weeks ago when it was raining.

Then just as I was about to turn into Charing Cross station, I noticed another Elephant twinkling in the sunlight. This beautiful Pearly prince in encrusted with gems and revolves on a turntable just inside Coutts Bank on The Strand. The artists are listed as SHO Fine Jewellery using Swarovski elements. Sponsored by The World Land Trust & Coutts.

and the other side.

  2. Wow - that last ellie is just FABULOUS! Really dramatic. Loads of great photos there, Lynn - very easy to walk miles when you're on the hunt, isn't it?
