We Will Remember Them - 1918 - 2018

I thought I would have a go as the CS Get Crafty October sketch challenge. We are approaching November 11th, so I decided to use the centenary of the end of World War I and some of my ancestors who fought in the war as my theme for the layout. 

Here is the sketch:

I used a mix of different papers, including the remains of a sheet of paper from the Mintay Farmlife collection left over from the layout I made using a C&S Get Crafty kit. This is where I cut, gutted and inked the six frames from.

I printed out photos for six ancestors from my mother's family. I used papers from several older Kaisercraft collections:

In The Attic collection - Closet
Base Coat collection - 
Remember Me collection - Sticker sheet

My title was cut with a Crafter's Companion alphabet and was layered up with scraps of the papers used for the rest of the page.

Better late than never - I have finished my September entry for the C&S Getcrafty challenge with a day to spare!

 

A layout for my daughter's wedding album - It's hard to believe it's nearly a year since the wedding now.

This month's challenge is a colour one, using the image below for inspiration.

I used a Placemat from Jillibean Soup - White Chevrons, I have had this in my stash for some months waiting for the right moment. 

I had lots of scraps left over from another layout when I used the Gypsy Rose collection from Kaisercraft. The colours were ideal, I just needed to add a little gold in the form of card for cutting the letters for the title.

It may look quite a simple design, but it tool a long time cutting and sticking all the shapes behind the apertures!

I made a set of templates by drawing through each shape, then cutting them a little larger, then I could simply cut what I needed. I used a sheet of white cardstock as a base, sticking the placemat to in along one side only, so I could set it aside like a booklet, to get underneath and stick the shapes to the card.

This is what it looked like before adding the photo and surface details. No need to fill the apertures where they wouldn't show.

I framed the photo with a card frame from the Kaisercraft Full Bloom collection 'Frame Cluster'.
I cut flowers from the 'Inspiring' paper, to make two clusters of blossoms. I added fronds using a Martha Stewart punch and more scraps of paper. A little stickles was added to these leaves.

The title was cut using a Sizzix Sizzlit alphabet die set - 'Block Party', and some Jillibean Soup Mini Alpha - Green Apple.

Farm Life - Wroxham Barns

I saw and loved a layout class on facebook designed and advertised by Clair Matthews of www.cs-getcrafty.com  As I couldn't get to the class, I contacted Clair and asked if I could purchase the kit, which she arranged for me. This weekend I found time to put the kit together.

I used some photos taken in 1994 when we took our three, two year olds on a day trip to Wroxham Barns where they enjoyed the children's farm area.

The luxurious papers for this layout are all from the 'Farm Life' collection from Mintay Papers by Karola Witczak. The papers are very thick and have some beautiful designs.

So lots of fussy cutting, distressing and inking, and the above picture shows what I made. I stuck closely to the instructions for this page, a few minor changes only. I added Stickles to the wings of the butterflies and the bee. I have plenty of images and paper left over to make some cards or another layout if I add some more papers.
