Dezzi and Emi

Catching up with blogging some crafty things I made before Christmas.

This layout was created at the October Papermaze Crop, and was designed by Lou.

The photo shows my daughter Emily who is learning to ride when she stays at her boyfriend Jack's house. His mother is teaching her on Dezzi (Lancier d'Extruval) an ex-thoroughbred racehorse.

The kit contained a sheet of Kaisercraft Weathered (Base paper), chipboard sheet, Bazzill in turquoise mist, saguaro and Bahama, black dewdrops, green twine, washi tape and wire.

The bricks were made with the chipboard by cutting the shapes and spritzed with coffee shop glimmer mist and white Dylusions ink.

The petals and leaves were made using a dies.

Here is Lou's original layout:

Tick-Toc Times Three!

Way back in the spring at our annual weekend retreat to Debden, Wendy and Liz gave everyone the makings of a chipboard clock, we had a variety of shapes and a selection of papers and embellishments. Here is the clock I made that weekend for my niece Lucy.

As Lucy is one of triplets, I was kindly given another two clocks to make up for Hannah and Oliver.

I used my Cricut to cut the characters and numbers for these time pieces.

This is Hannah's Clock ....

... and Oliver's clock.

I used lots of scraps of Bazzill and various papers from my stash. I used punches for the flowers. The names are all created with Doodlebug Designs Inc. letter stickers. Tons of Stickles and Liquid pearls were also employed!
As I had to travel to London on the train and then the tube to give these clocks to the children, so I made a box for each one. I was then able to tie them together for transportation. The were all ticking away loudly in out living room, so I thought I had better remove the batteries before boarding the trains!

Happy Christmas Oliver, Hannah and Lucy!

Gift Wrapping for Wine

Last weekend - at the Papermaze Christmas Crop, Lou Collins held a make and take to make this delightful label / wrap for giving a bottle of wine as a gift for Christmas.

Here is my result:

We used patterned papers, Kraft Bazzill, twine, Stickles, 3D foam pads, dew drops, a greeting stamp, snowflake, leaf, oval and border punches. On the back is a piece of patterned paper for the 'to' and 'from' details and greeting.

Thanks for a great make and take Lou. I look forward to presenting this to ********* on Christmas day!

Thanks for looking.

Advent 2013

More news from the Papermaze Christmas Crop. Vanessa provides a kit and we are challenged to make a layout using the contents.

Here is what I made:

The photo is from our niece Heather of her 4 year old triplets. I had these advent calendars for my triplets when they were about the same age, and we thought it would be good to fill them for Oliver, Hanna and Lucy to enjoy. Seems they have had great fun with them.

Most of the items used were in the kit including the Bazzill and the papers from the Bundled Up collection by Crate Paper. I cut the title from Funky Foam.

Thanks for a great Crop and Merry Christmas to all at Papermaze.
Thanks for looking.

Patchwork Reindeer

Scrapology's card challenge this month is to make a Christmas card - any colour, size, shape, embellishment, technique that you like - Easy!  So why not join in with one or all of the cards you make this year?! You could win a prize.

This is the card I made for my lovely Mum and Dad - for inclusion in the Design Team Inspiration Gallery:

I stamped this adorable reindeer from Woodware on to Kraft Bazzill, then again onto many different patterned papers from Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses collection. I cut our each section and added some shading with Promarkers and chalk inks. The red nose is a flat-backed gem and the eye a black pearl. lots of Stickles were added where I needed sparkle. The snow is liquid Pearls.  The greetings stamps came with the reindeer stamp.

I do hope you will join the in fun and send images of your cards to Scrapology.

Christmas Cards - Create A Critter 2

I wanted to make my cropping friends a card each for Christmas  - I got the Cricut out and set to work with the Create a Critter 2 cartridge.

Choosing this delightful bird on with the word 'JOY' seemed a good idea. I sorted out lots of scrap cardstock, some Craft Creations card blanks, and some copyright free Christmas sheet music.

I ended up with several variations of the basic idea, but they all had flat-backed pearls for mistletoe berries, and for the bird's eyes and a satin ribbon for the wreath.

I hope all those who received one of these cards likes them and I wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS! xxx

Candle Gifts

There is an excellent tutorial on the Lili of the Valley site for decorating candles with stamps. So with a selection of stamps, my promarkers and a Memento ink pad, I set about making lots of these candles for my Cropping friends at Cardinal Colours.

Here they are in a bit more detail:

 Lili of the Valley Stamp

 Kraftin' Kimmie Stamp

An Andrea Jane Evans stamp and a Molly Bloom stamp

Lili of the Valley Stamp

Lili of the Valley Stamp.

Then I gift wrapped them ready for today's crop.

Merry Christmas girls x

Thanks for looking, back with cards tomorrow.

Let It All Hang Out!

My creative friend Anita designed a transparent layout class for the weekend crop held by Cardinal Colours back in September. I was also busy teaching classes that weekend but she kindly gave me a kit which I had fun completing last week.

My photos are from our niece, Heather of her triplets (Hannah, Lucy and Oliver) enjoying the summer holidays, because the photos are simply pegged into position I have also printed them in black and white so when she has this page to add to her album, she can swap the photos around if she wants to.

Where you can see the cream grid paper is a sheet of acetate. The elements hang with tiny wooden pegs from rainbow threads strung across the layout frame.

Nearly all the elements are cut from the Vintage Bliss collection papers by Simple Stories. I added some stickers from the same collection. They are all enhances with ink and plenty of sparkly bling!

Thanks for a brilliant class kit Anita.

Here is Anita's lovely original:

Now The Rain Has Gone - 'S is for Splicing'

Memories of Norfolk again with this layout. Our very first time staying in the lovely Rookery 1 in West Beckham (1995). We had a long journey travelling from Kent to North Norfolk, then when we arrived it rained - just when the children (aged 3 at the time) were keen to explore their surroundings. So we donned boots and rain suits and headed outside - just as the sun came out and they just had a wonderful time running around the grounds.

The papers are from Echo Park's Scoot collection. I added twine, buttons, Liquid Pearls, white gel pen & Making Memories letter stickers.
This was my second layout for Scrapology's December scraplifi challenge - we are using  this clever design by Miki Krueger.

I drew our sketch as always

Beauty - S is for Splice

'S is for Splicing' is the theme for December over on Scrapology. Splicing up a large photo to be precise, although you could also use a series of photos or another method with the same sketch. I chose to scrap this lovely photo of my daughter Catherine. It is another one from the series she had taken at a photo shoot at the beginning of the year.

I knew I was treasuring these Kaiser craft papers from Merly Impressions for a good reason. They were prefect for the background in this photo. I printed the picture in black and white and colour before splicing them both up - eek!

Roses & leaves from Wild Orchid Crafts
Black Glittery Chipboard Letters from American Crafts - Thickers
Papers are Charlotte's Dream - Kaisercraft - Vision and Deja-vu
Ranger - Tim Holtz Distress Stains and Ink.

We are Scraplifiting this clever design by Miki Krueger.

I drew our sketch as always

Please check out the blog to see the layouts produced by the rest of the DT and read more about Miki.
There is a goodie bag for the winner of the challenge which runs until midnight on 5th January 2014

Memories of Winifred May (Humm) Holder...

...that's my Gran. I remember her with great fondness today as it would have been her 113th birthday. She was born in 1900. Sadly she died just two weeks after her 74th birthday.

I have been working hard scanning and searching for details relating to over 400 photographs lent to me by my cousin over the last few months. This has shed light on her life and that of many other relatives for both the Holder and Humm families.

Here she is with my mother Mary, her youngest child.

This is a photo I took of her and my grandfather in their back garden with my first camera and film (1970)
Ernest and Winifred on their wedding day 1929

Here is the over skirt from Gran's wedding dress, which I treasure and will pass on the my children. Such amazing detail, coffee chiffon fabric and cream lace with pleating and embroidery.

Thanks for reading.
