Baby Lucy

I made this layout at the Big Event Crop on Sunday, between attending the classes.  These photos were taken while visiting the triplets back in September 2009, so Lucy was 9 months old. You may not be able to see here, but Lucy's trouser material is the same as the pink polka dot paper.

Materials used:
Basic Grey's Olivia Collection Pack for the papers and element stickers (BABY Banner, Chick, flower.).
American Crafts Fantastic Foam Thickers (alphabet stickers) in Salmon.
Echo Park, Life is Good Alphabet Stickers all three from Cardinal Colours.
Technique Tuesday's - Message in a Banner Stamps (LUCY) from Paper Maze
Stampin' Up 1 3/8 circle punch for border
Linda's stamp from the Journal Elements A5 Clear Stamp Set, she purchased them from Crafts and Candlelight's stand just a few minutes before I used it here!

Stompin' Chefs

This is the second class I attended at Your Creations - The Big Event on Sunday. The class was designed by Wendy McKee, and taught by Anna Parker.

I need to get a better photo of this when when the light is better, it faded so fast yesterday.
This was created using Echo Park 'Everybody Loves Christmas' papers, but was not a Christmas layout. There are plenty of patterned papers in this range that can be used for any occasion. This layout used both sides of the Bright Stripes paper, the blue side of the Journalling Cards paper and the Alpha Stickers sheet. The design also used a doily, clear gems, ribbon, decorative pins and buttons.

The photo I chose to use is one I have been meaning to scrap for some time. It shows Catherine and her dance team mates in costume after performing a stomp dance at the Kent Dance Challenge, Maidstone in October 2009, as the senior dance team of the Liz Burville Performing Arts Centre.

Snape Maltings

52 Walks with my Camera 2010 - week 46

Snape Maltings in a snow storm.

Into the warm for a coffee!

This last photo, 'Widow Sill Surprise' is from Alesha's Blog. It is a display inside the cafe. I tried to get a shot like this, with the snow falling outside, but mine didn't come out too well.

Poinsettia Gift Box

Here is the poinsettia gift box class from Sunday's Your Creations The Big Event Crop, designed and taught by Karen Leonard.

The box and lid are both made by folding squares of paper. In this case we used a whole 12 x 12" sheet of Echo Park - Everybody Loves Christmas, 'Christmas Words' paper and a 11 3/4 x 11 3/4"sheet of Bazzill.

I had made boxes this way before but it was fun to relearn this skill and be shown this neat floral decoration for the lid using ribbon, a 12 x 2" strip of  bright stripes (reverse side) paper (trimmed along both edges with the Fiskars threading water punch) and a doiley. The poinsettia was made in three layers cut from templates, lots of curling, scrunching and inking, then glued together with 3D double-sided foam pads. The centre of the flower is a pearl button and a clear gem.

Thanks Karen, I enjoyed making this box and I have the perfect wrapping for one of my Christmas gifts. I'm sure I will be making more of these too.

The Big Event

Today Linda and I headed off early to Henley, Suffolk for the first Your Creations - The Big Event . The scrapbooking crop event was organised by Anna Parker and was held in the Henley Community Centre. Together with Jane and Debbie they hope to hold two of these events a year.

There were two craft shops on site for the day - Paper Maze, and Crafts and Candlelight.

A choice of four classes was offered, you could take part in any number of these. There was a lucky dip, a raffle (I won a CM scrapbook album) and refreshments were available all day and we took our lunch with us.

The kit was optional and contained the materials necessary for all the classes, where there was overlap of papers and embellishments you could buy the extras needed. The papers and letter stickers were all 'Everybody Loves Christmas' from Echo Park.

There was a beginners class (which we didn't do), a non-Christmas layout designed by Wendy McKee and taught by Anna. A gift box class designed and taught by Karen Leonard. The last class was a Christmas themed layout by Lou Collins.

Here are some sneak peeks of each class from the designers, until I get time and daylight to finish off or photograph my creations from the day.

I also had time to make another layout, in the cropping room before I started classes.
Back soon with my box and layouts.

Thanks to Anna and the team for a great day scrapping!

A Card for Baby

I blogged about new baby Esme last week, and have been trying to get time to make her a card. I had a busy weekend but on Sunday evening I got the Cricut out and made this for her. I popped it in the post on Monday so I hope it has arrived with Amy and Martin and little Esme by now. I'm enjoying following her progress on Facebook.

I used some very old papers from the Nursery set by Daisy D's - I love these and I'm down to the last few scraps now. Such pretty shades of lemon and pink, but distressed at the same time. The butterfly buttons are from Doodlebug Designs Inc. The letters are cut with the 'All Mixed Up' Cricut Cartridge. Shadowed and inked. I added plenty of Stickles glitter, perfect pearls, and flat backed pearls and gems. The corners were cut with the Jazz corner punch from EK Success.

52 Walks in 2010 with my Camera - The South Bank, London

Today I went to Waterloo as I had a meeting at The Evelina Children's Hospital in St. Thomas' Hospital. I took a long walk back to the station to take some photos.

New Toy and Lemons

I made these lemon cupcakes using my new toy - a Kenwood Chef. When I mentioned I could do with a new food mixer I didn't know Alan would buy this! Reminds me of when I was growing up. However this model is so much lighter in weight than I remember. It works very well, so there should be more cakes and other goodies to come.

The cakes have a lemon surprise inside, lemon curd!

Christmas Shopping underway!

Catherine is home from University for the weekend and we have had a great time.
Bluewater for some Christmas shopping today.

She loved this tree in John Lewis decorated with bands of rainbow coloured baubles.

We did lots of Christmas gift shopping and when we got home made a start on the wrapping too.

What a day!

Today was the Awards ceremony at Catherine's old school - Trinity C of E School. It was lovely for her to meet us with some friends again, bu as it is still term time may couldn't make it. Because Catherine is at University in Twickenham she was able to come home for a long weekend. The event was organised to give out the GCSE certificated followed by the A Level certificates. Then it went on to special awards, she was rewarded for her achievements by being awarded a prize for Dance and English Literature. Then to our surprise she was awarded the Head Teacher's Award. Each year he picks someone for the award from any year throughout the whole school. He had some lovely words to say about her efforts and achievements. Then afterwards there was photos with Mr Collins and other award winners. I was not expecting to have my photo taken - but the proud parents were called upon of a photo too!

organising the group for the photo!

We were called in to join this photo

The board where her name has been listed just inside the school.

It was a lovely service and such a lovely surprise. Needless to say we are very proud of her too.
Well done Catherine. x

Lost and Found

I took a trip to see Vanessa and Lou at Paper Maze on Friday and fell in love with these Lost and Found papers from My Mind's Eye. The layout is created using just two sheets of this range. I used the scalloped paper called 'Market Street Beautiful' as the base and then both sides of the pink sheet called 'Madison Avenue J Adore' for matting and cutting. I also picked up a yard each of Maya Road organza ribbon roses in olive and pink.

Here is my finished layout and it features my great grandparents Henry William Humm and Susan Dunn.

This layout is in the style of  the work of the talented Gabrielle Pollacco. I have used flat backed pearls and dew drops, leaf decorative pink, lace, a selection of flowers and some stickles. I used the Cricut with the Heritage cartridge for the title and the swirl. The Cindy Lou cartridge was used for the lacy circle.
