Christmas Countdown - CSI 341

For the December cold Case 341 over on CSI, here is my layout to solve the case.

The photo is of Catherine when she was 13, in front of our Christmas Tree. I liked the image used for the scene and with all the numbers, decided to create an Advent Calendar style layout.

Coca-Cola Truck - CSI 340

For the 340 CSI challenge I have created a layout with this Coca-Cola truck which we saw while in Washington D. C. last December.

Mark's Mural - Mr Men

Here is my answer to this months Colour, Stories, Inspiration (CSI) Cold Case No. 338.
To go with the 'scene' colour scheme, I chose this photo of my nephew in 1987. I painted this Mr Men mural on his bedroom wall for him.

I managed to achieve the following:

*Use older kitchen or home themed elements - Spoon charms to reflect the boy eating on the mural.

* Use paint that you havent used in a while - old acrylic paints to add colour to the tips of the brushes

Basic Grey letter stickers
* Use a stamp you havent used before - Woodware Art Easel set for the paint brush

I Love My Sewing Machine - CSI 310

Here is my entry, solving CSI case 310 February 2020.
I have used photos my daughter Emily in January 2013 when we took her to choose a sewing machine while she was home from Uni for Christmas. We ended up buying her one there and then - three months earlier than her birthday. Newsworthy - CSI 309

Here is my entry, solving CSI case 309 February 2020.
I have used a photo of Liquorice the cat in September 2018 when she first came to live with us. She liked to climb on Mum's lap white she was reading the paper. CSI - Sun Hat

This is my second answer to CSI challenges (308). Having made the first 'Black and White Cat Seeks Colour' which I blogged yesterday - I decided to use the left over papers to make another layout.  I used the same cold case clues to scrapbook this photo of my daughter Emily when she had a new sun hat back in 1999, we were staying with my parents in Fairlight at the time. 

You can see the full details for all three January 2020 challenges on the website and on the CSI Scrapbook Challenge Facebook page.

The clues I used are:
Find older papers that match some of the colours in The Scene / are bright and colourful / geometric pattern / circular elements - My papers are not as old as some I used on other challenges, but I have been carrying them around with me since they first came out, finding it difficult to decide what to do with them despite loving them. They are from Shimelle's American Craft - Field Trip collection.
Brads, Buttons or Bling - enamel dots and hearts
Pie Chart - took apart the die cut pie chart from the collection and used parts of it and rearranged the elements from it too.

Other items used:
Distress Ink Pads to ink cut edges and to make an ink to spritz over the page.
AC Thickers - Truly Grateful Puffy Phrase & Accent Stickers and Happy Thoughts Foam Letter Stickers
Bazzill White cardstock

Handfasting - CSI #274

This month's cold case (#274) over on CSI involves winter colours and using old papers. The photo from Emily and Jack's hand fasting last year was perfect for this challenge. Here they are as Veve or Geniveve d'Tensel and Arden, cutting their cake made by The Woodwich Harts or bridesmaids. The colours and the image from the challenge made me think of the photos from this occasion straight away.

The Basic Grey 'Fruitcake' collection was perfect for this and an example of using Christmas papers for a non Christmas layout.

Naughty or Nice - CSI #271

My response of the CSI Cold Case 271 (Colour, Stories, Inspiration), is this layout called 'Naughty or Nice?' with my nephew's children the Christmas before last. 

In answer to some of the clues:
Find older papers that have a winter theme / match the palate - I used papers from several old Basic Grey collections:
Blitzen, Figgy Pudding, Eskimo Kisses, Pulmeria, Wassail and Fruit Cake.
Use at least 3 seldom used stamps - managed one with 49 and Market Gabi's Stitches
Use Stickers - Letter Stickers from the Basic Grey Collections mentioned above.
Use Enamel Accents, Liquid Pearls or similar to make dots around the page inspired by the white dots in the scene - I used Nvuo Crystal Drops around the large heart and on two of the paper strips.
I also used paper with dots for the background.
Use products from a kit you have not used or that you did not use much - several items from a Christmas Papermaze kit form a couple of years ago - the Christmas greeting, the glitter heart and the tickets. I have a box of Christmas embellishments which I have collected over the years and that is where I found some wooden gingerbread men, a button badge, silver painted wooden stars, Santa charm a glittery brad and a Christmas postage stamp.
Create a wreath from some of the items - I made a heart wreath from my papers using an old set of templates from my stash - They were from Technique Tuesday.
Update the look of your items by adding stitching - my rubber stamp as mentioned above - stitches.

Happy First Birthday Scarlett - CSI 269

It's some time since I took part in one of the CSI (Colour, Stories, Inspiration) scrapbooking challenges, but I thought I would give it a go this time. I wanted to create a page for Scarlett's album for her first birthday. The birthday theme fits with CSI's 7th birthday.

For my layout I used an old collection from Basic Grey - Fresh Cut, the colours were ideal for the scheme, and I'm pleased to have used some papers from my stash. I inked the edges with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink.

Instead of polka dots my main paper has a tear/rain drop design on it - Bluebell Boutique paper.
I used many papers from the collection to make two large rings and three two-layered squares. I cut these using the Cricut. Then using some Crafter's Companion dies I cut the balloons, bunting and the large number '1'.

I selected a white doily from my stash and some flat-backed self-adhesive pearls. My balloons were tied with Baker's Twine in several different colours. With a small square of paper from a Basic Grey paper pad (Basics) I cut a journalling panel and edged it with an EK Success notebook punch. I used some 3D double-sided foam pads to vary the height of the elements.

I added some words with tiny mint letter stickers from the Fresh Cut sticker sheet.

Road Trip

Take a look on CSI  for details of Case File No. S365-1 {Special Scrap365 Case File closes August 31, 2013} I'm just in time to solve this one! 

My layout shows Andrew, Catherine and Emily picnicking in the car on a wet road trip through Norfolk in 1996. More memories for the Norfolk Album. 

Here is the case file for this challenge:

This is how I solved it:

The Scheme - All five colours used on layout. Papers are from My Mind's Eye - The Sweetest Thing collection.

Evidence - A road map of Norfolk from an old road atlas. A small section of the area we were in has been cut out and trapped under a watch glass (something transparent). Metal pin.


Testimony - Topic is road trip, my story is tucked into a pocket behind the photo, and the journalling is on three tags. 

The journalling tells the story to the children: We promised you a picnic in the forest as we travelled through Norfolk on holiday .....but it rained! So we had the picnic in the car instead.  You seemed to enjoy this just as much! The three of you climbed into the back to eat together.

Just after you were born we had to buy a bigger car to accommodate all three of you plus a big triplet buggy so we decided on the blue Volvo you named 'Alice'. We had two extra rear facing seats added (which folded flat into the boot floor when not needed). This meant we could travel with the three of you and two extra adults and we could then take three umbrella buggies. You used to love it when we got these seats set up and you would fight over who would sit there as we could only have two of you in these seats. You loved to wave at the people in the car behind and got very mixed reactions!
By the time of this trip you didn't need the buggies very often and we had Auntie Marion and Auntie Beryl with us. On this occasion we were visiting Dad's friends John and Elaine who have just moved to East Dereham. 

In addition I used:
Glimmer Mist (Oops I got some on the photo too!)
Prima Wooden elements.
Prima gem sprays and other gems.
My Little Shoe Box tiny letter stickers.
American Crafts Thickers in two different alphas for title.

Naturally Beautiful - CSI

CSI case #84 ends tonight, and I managed to complete this layout on Friday, so it's time I shared it! It's all about vacations and travel this month so this week I went for more memories of our trips to Norfolk when the children were younger (2001 this time). I have featured pictures of my father and my daughter, Catherine on a visit to Holt Wild Flower Centre.

Here are the details of the challenge, showing the Scheme, Evidence and Testimony.

 There is also a sketch.

To solve the case I used all the colours in the Scheme: my papers were a very mixed bag - Little Yellow Bicycle - Paradise -Earthy Dots; My Mind's Eye - On the Bright Side - Stripe (leafy green side); Basic Grey - Oliver - Sticker sheet, Mason (Navy) & Greyson; Crate Paper - Portrait - sticker sheet.

Evidence: Paper with stripes, fabric, twine, circles (buttons).
Testimony: A story of a get away together - the words 'escape' and 'explore' are included in the journalling, some of which can be seen on the layout the rest is hidden under the pictures and on the reverse of the tags.

I also used lots of sticker strips from the Basic Grey and the Crate Paper collections, Kaisecraft Grid stamp, several colours of Glimmer mist, Prima Resistant Canvas shapes.
I added a little back pack charm to reflect Catherine's bag in the photo.






 The Prima Resist Canvas Shapes were spritzed with the Glimmer Mists and then some Stickles glitter glue was added to highlight, they were then added with layers of 3D foam to give dimension.

The fabric strip is left over linen from an old cross stitch project with the edges frayed. The smaller butterflies were created from left over papers and a 3 in 1 Martha Stewart punch. The title is Basic Grey letter stickers for 'Naturally' and 'Beautiful' was cut on the Cricut with the Theresa Collins Sophisticated cartridge.

Cake CSI #72

The famous 21st birthday cake needs to be recorded! - so it now features on two layouts (one in black and white which I can't show you yet, but will be revealed in June), and this one I have created for this week's CSI challenge (#72).

 

Here is what was required to crack solve the mystery this time (more details on the site):

This is what I chose to include:

The Scheme - I used all the colours
Krafted - Kraft Bazzill as by background
Bottle Green - in the Scenic Route and My Mind's Eye papers, Chalk Mist on background and the flowers (which were grey - an old Prima purchase which was gathering dust!), also the distress stain and ink used on letters (Basic Grey Chipboard alphabets stickers, painted with acrylic paint and sprayed, then inked) and numbers (American Crafts Foam Thickers).
Yellowed Pages - from the MME papers.
Olive Oil -  Also from the same papers and the leaves.
Toasted Baguette - From the papers.

Evidence - I have used:
A doily.
Book page print on the Tim Holtz paper used to create the heart.
Labels cut from the MME (The Sweetest Thing - Tangerine) Event / Place / Date details and used for hidden journalling.
Leafy vines - the Prima vine.
Drawing - I drew in white gel pen round a lacy border I made with a Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page punch set and an sheet of spare 12" x 12" paper. I also used this as a template to draw the same pattern around the heart. I drew in some black lines free hand around the border and the heart.
Metal - Book plate Tim Holtz for the '21'.
Kraft Background - Kraft Bazzill - spritzed (chalk mists) and splats (distress stains) and doodled on.rote my journalling on a series of stacked labels, cut from 'Tangello' Greetings Paper MME. They are tucked under the photo and can be pulled out to read.

Testimony - Write your journalling on a series of stacked labels.
My journalling (written on the labels and tucked under the photo) tells of the day we celebrated the triplet's 21st birthday - 31.03.13. The photo only shows the girls as Andrew is away in America.  We were at my brother's flat and he made a lovely lunch for us all (he is also waiting for his lovely Elaine to get home from Brazil). The cake I made was in 7 layers, each one a different colour of the rainbow, so it was very tall, and covered in a white icing. I also made a second lactose free cake for Emily.

I want to ride my {sister's} bicycle

It's some time since I made a layout with more than one photograph, but I was inspired to have a go at this week's CSI challenge. It's also quite a while since I had time to take part in a CSI challenge. I find these challenges excellent for making me use up my existing stash and for mixing papers from different collections. It is more of a challenge when I'm away from home and have limited papers etc. with me, but more time to take part.

 
Here is the case file (71) we were challenged to solve as a scrapbook page.

Testimony - Song title - The one and only Queen – “I want to ride my bicycle” with a twist to suit the photos.

Journalling - The tag pulls out and contains the story of the bike and my my brother (in the photos)  eventually inheriting it from me and my sister. I remember going to buy the bicycle with my father and choosing it at the bike shop in Penge High Street. The photos were taken in 1969 and were colour slides which have been converted.

Three Generations / Six Generations CSI Challenge # 43

For this weeks CSI challenge I have been working with this photo of my ancestors.

There are three generations shown here and and one element of the challenge was to use an older photo and tie the past together with the present in your journalling. So the writing explains the family link between the folk in the photo and then goes on to explain how the family now has a further three generations (see below). My journalling is framed which was another element and I have hidden it under the photo, which folds open to show my scribbles and a family tree.

These are the colours for this weeks challenge:  Black Tie Event, Lemon Chiffon,  Green Grace,  Alabaster Elegance & Fancy Foliage. 

I used these evidence elements:

Damask - the Glitz Design paper from the Love Games collection.
Ribbons - ribbon with shell and bead trimming and tape measure tape.
Frame -  black Bazzill frame cut with Marianne Designs Die used behind photo for journalling.
Foliage - and flowers cut with various punches and Marianne Dies in green Bazzill and Basic Grey papers.
Something transparent  -   Acetate film strip.
Patterned brad - Basic Grey
Flourishes - cut with Marianne die and Green Bazzill
A Black-and-white patterned paper - The Glitz Design paper.

Here is my journalling, visible by opening up the hinged photo. It reads:

"This photo shows three generations of the family. My mother Mary Holder is the little girl on the far right. Next to here is her cousin Patricia Coppin. Next to Pat is her mother Gladys (Humm) Coppin. In the big chair is Gladys' mother Susan (Dunn) Humm. At the far left is Susan's eldest daughter Winifred    (Humm) Holder (Mary's mother and my grandmother). 

They are all sitting in the garden of 'The Bird In Hand' Public House, where Gladys and her husband Charles and Pat lived at the time. Bickley near Bromley.

Today Mary is a great grandmother to two (Jamie and Jessica Prior), grandmother to five Mark and Sam Prior, Andrew, Emily and Catherine Cooper) and mother to three Lynn (me), Sylvia and Robert Banks." 

Then I drew a basic family tree to explain the links.
