Indie Girl - All about Me

On the Saturday of the Cardinal Colours Retreat I attended another class with Laura and S-J this class used Sassafrass Lass papers from the 'Indie Girl' collection.

The idea was to create a layout 'All about me' so I took along this photo converted to black and white. It was taken a few years ago now (not so old and wrinkly then!), in my parents house when they lived in Fairlight.
This is the full collection, again we had two sheets of double sided paper. The base was a sheet of Bazzill cardstock.

It was great fun layering papers, flowers and labels. I did a lot of inking! The 12" stickers were lovely to add plenty of patterns to the layout. Buttons, gems, pearls and stickles were also added later.

Happy Birthday Dad

Using the left over Life is Good papers and stickers from the Echo Park kit I made a birthday card at the weekend.

I used one of Linda's new stamps and my promarkers for the image.

Christmas Blog Candy

You have until Friday to pop over to Scrapology and comment to be in with a chance of winning some blog candy.

Life is Good

I'm planning to catch up with some blogging from the Cardinal Colours Retreat and the classes I took part in. On Friday I took a class with S-J using Echo Park 'life is Good' papers.

The photos were taken in Beer, Devon back in July this year.

This is the Life is Good collection, we were given two sheets of double sided paper from this collection.

We used alphabet stickers from the same collection

I used the pink paper and cut a shape using one of the templates SJ provided. Then I cut a piece of blue paper 12cm wide and stuck this over the pink shape towards the left side. Turn over and trim blue paper to fit the pattern of the pink paper. I stuck this to the brown Bazzill base cardstock.

I used two 6x4" photos, and stuck these across the layout as shown.

The flowers were made in three different ways. Make them in a variety of sizes and colours:

1. Some were simply cut from the flower patterned paper.

2. Others were made by simply punching out 7 circles of the same size. One is used as a base to stick the other 6 to. I inked these circles and folded as shown.  Stick all 6 folded circles into position and add decoration to centre.

3. We were shown how to cut strips of paper to the width of our choice. Ink the edges and fold these strips concertina style. Stick ends together. Stick finished circle to a small punched circle using a strong wet glue. Add a cut out flower or button to the centre.

I arranged all the flowers along the top and bottom of the photos until happy with the presentation. Then added in a punched butterfly. I stuck them all down once happy.  Next I decorated the flowers with glitter glues, pearls, buttons and gems. Some were included others from my stash.

Lastly I added my title with the sticker letters from the sheet provided.

Really enjoyed this class thanks S-J and Jill. x

Mystic

Mystic is a European Eagle Owl, and this picture was painted by my father (Robert Banks) a few years ago now. It is his birthday on Friday and so I was looking for inspiration for a card to make for him when I found this photo. I have a framed print on my dining room wall. I remember him spending time at Chilham Castle taking photos for this painting.

The painting was made into limited edition prints, with kind permission of the Raptor Centre, Chilham Castle Kent.
I will take some more photos of his artwork, this made me realise how few photos I have taken of all the painting he has created over the years. If you are interested in a print of Mystic, he does have a few left, just drop me an email.

Cardinal Colours Retreat

We all had a fantastic time at Jill's (Cardinal Colours) retreat, held in Eastbourne from 17th to 19th September. Anita, Linda and I were helping Jill and although we are all exhausted we all had a great time, met some lovely people and would definitely do it again. Pleased to hear that Jill has had some great feed back from the retreat too.

I have added some pictures here from the weekend.

Making up the seaside buckets of sweets on he morning of the retreat.

They looked lovely all together. Brilliant idea Jill. What a lovely treat to find in your room.

One of the workshops, Angie was teaching this one.

One of Anita's marvelous make and Take sessions

I pinched this photo from Jill, everyone in front of the Band Stand.

Me outside the hotel with the deer! It was lovely weather.

 Linda also outside the hotel

Me teaching the Cricut make and take session

All together by the pier (another of Jill's photos)

Crazy picture on the pier on Friday night!

Back with more later.
Thanks for taking a look.

Nottingham

52 Walks with my Camera - week 37

Yesterday we took Emily to her accommodation at Nottingham University. She has a really nice room in a flat with four other girls, they share two bathrooms and a kitchen diner with big sofas. She can walk to her Campus and is only a short distance from the city centre. We helped her unpack, did a little shopping and had dinner in Nottingham. Alan and I stayed in a hotel for the night then popped back to see Emily before the return journey home. Here are some photos of our walk around the Jubilee Campus where she will be studying.

This was taken in her room this morning.

Official Opening Ceremony of the New Club-House
12th October 2010

Today was the official opening of the club-house at our yacht club. We were very lucky with the weather especially as the ceremony was held outside.  We were also fortunate the ceremony was in the morning as we needed to drive to Manchester today to take Andrew to his university accommodation tomorrow morning. So I am writing this blog entry in the hotel bedroom.

While waiting for the ceremony to start I walked around the grounds. Take a look on the club website to learn more about the history (110 years of it), and all the facilities, courses and membership.
Here are my photos from this morning:

The Club-House was opened by Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. The Mayoress of Bexley was also at the opening. There was a blessing by Father Dane Batley-Gladden.

There was a cake, champagne and a lovely buffet lunch and we just had to take a few photos of these treats:
