Inspired to Knit

Happy New Year All.

When in Aberdeen back in November, Emily and I found a fantastic wool shop called 'Wool For Ewe', a very well stocked shop with friendly knowledgeable staff. Emily was looking for wool to make The Fern Shawl from Tiny Owl Knits, she had downloaded the pattern and so had googled knitting shops, so we set off to find the store on foot as it was not far from Catherine's accommodation and His Majesty's Theatre she was working in that week.

I have not done any knitting for a while but while in the shop I was inspired by two projects. I picked out a pattern some wool to make a lacy scarf, and liked a baby toy one of the staff had made, she gave me a link for the pattern and I chose the wool for that as well. I'm pleased to say that less than two month's later I have actually finished both projects and Emily is about halfway through her shawl, which is a much bigger project.

My scarf was a Louisa Harding Design knitted with one 50g ball of Amitola which is a wool and silk mix. The yarn blends gently from one colour to the next to create stunning self-patterned knits, I chose Morgan which blends from pale to dark blue, through shades of green to beige and brown. The silk content makes it beautifully smooth, while the wool is warm and soft.

I had fun making this and although it's not perfect as it's not easy to undo when you have made a mistake, I am pleased with the result and would make another, maybe in another colour scheme.

I will share my second project with you in my next post, when I have had a chance to take some photographs in some daylight.

Thanks for looking, and if ever you are in Aberdeen look up 'Wool For Ewe'.
Lynn x
