The Kiff Family

Here is my second layout made with the romantic February Papermaze Kit. This beautiful collection is ideal for Heritage layouts. I came across this lovely group photo from our family ancestors. I have added details of these characters at the end of this blog post.

This photo was sent to me by a someone I have linked up with through Ancestry. It shows George and Irene Kiff with Charles, Leonard, Irene, Thomas and Dorothy.

Charles Kiff was the husband of my Great Aunt Florence 
Charles was born on 27th August 1898 in Lambeth, his parents were Thomas George Kiff (1859 -1936) & Irene Leonora Eaton (1869 – 1956)

Charlie married Florence Dorothy Holder (1894 – 1962) in Bromley in 1921. After Florences death her married Marietta Wheatley (1908 – 1982) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 31st August 1963

Charlie and Florrie had one child - Vera Enid Kiff (1922 – 2021), and three grandchildren - Patricia, Doreen & Sheila.

Char;es had seven siblings - Frank, May, Alice, Leonard, Thomas George, Irene Leonora & Dorothy Amy.

Charlie died on 28th June 1995in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 97.

Charlie and Florrie emigrated to Canada, setting sail from Southampton to Quebec on 20th July 1926. The sailed on the 'Antonia' - Cunard Line

Julia

This heritage layout is one for my father's album, Julia is a distant relative but I had four photos of her which have been shared with me via Ancestry.

I made this for the FTLOPP Cake Day (6th Birthday) challenge #3 Red Velvet Cake. The options were to use a hidden element and some red.

For this layout I used four photos of Julia Chancellor, One photo shows when you look at the page, but there are three hidden behind the first when you open out the accordian. There is also all the information I have gleaned about Julia's life:

Julia Chancellor, Wife of 2^nd Great Grand Uncle
Born in Chelsea in 1836 and baptised on 19^th October at St. Luke’s Church
Julia was the 10^th of 12 children born to John Chancellor (1794 -1876) and
Rebecca Mary Wilmott (1797 – 1869)
Julia married Michael Hinde (1812 – 1872) on 19^th December 1866 at St. Mary’s Newington
Julia and Michael had 3 children, Frederick Michael (1869 – 1927), Albert Edward (1870 -1951) and Julia Gertrude (1871 – 1913)
Widowed in 1872 when she was 35.
Julia married Arthur Maddison (1833 – 1887), on 20^th August 1874 at St. Andrew’s Church, Lambeth. Julia and Arthur had 3 sons, Arthur Algernon (1875 – 1948), Harold Chancellor (1877 – 1925) and Cecil Willmott (1880 – 1858)
Julia was widowed again in 1887 when she was 50.
Several of her children emigrated to Canada.
Julia died in 15^th October 1925 in Huntingdon

Capital View

Another layout from our trip to Washington DC last year. This shows the vie from where we were standing outside the Lincoln Memorial building looking along the Reflecting Pool, towards the World War II Memorial, with the Washington Monument in the distance. 

Difficult to believe it's just over a year since we were here, what with all that 2020 has brought us, but so pleased we had this wonderful, unexpected opportunity last December.

Catherine's Graduation

Nearly four years on... and I have finally scrapped a photo from Catherine's graduation!

Catherine graduated in Drama and Theatre Arts in 2013 and the ceremony was held at Westminster Cathedral. She studied at St. Mary's University, Strawberry Hill, Twickenham.

I used some old papers from Paper Mania - Portobello Road

Tea Chest

A cup of tea anyone?

I purchased box of drawers in a sale at Papermaze a few months ago and have just got around to making it into a tea chest to store all the different teas I have acquired.

The papers I selected had a tea theme, but they are also floral so will go well on my dresser with my china. The papers are from Graphic 45 'Botanical Tea Collection'.

Each drawer was covered with a different piece of patterned paper. Thin I did some fussy cutting to add more detail to each drawer and inked all the edges.

The top was treated with several pieces to make a collage as it was slightly longer than 12". Again I added cut out details.

Both ends were treated in the same was with the same sheet of paper.

The was the back is arranged made it a perfect size for a sheet of 12" paper from side to side, I only had to trim the bottom of the page off. 

I added the Kaisercraft metal label pulls in brass. with tiny labels I printed myself on the computer. there is a selection of templates for this in the pack with the pulls. These can easily be changed if I decide to use the box to store something else.

The box itself was painted with acrylic paint, then distressed with inks.

Pleased with the finished result and the box is stocked up and ready to use. My grocery cupboard is now much tidier too!

Letter Holder - Beyond The Page Project

Working at organisation within the study / craft room. This was one of the 'Beyond the Page' projects from last summer's Merly Impressions Retreat. I finished it a few weeks ago and have only just found time to tell you about it.

This project was designed by Chrissy Tingey using Kaisercraft Art of Life Collection. I thought it would be great for storing scrapbook materials if not used for letter writing bits and pieces.

The kit included:

BTP Letter Holder made of MDF Kaisercraft

Patterned papers - Kaisercraft Art of Life collection
Wooden flourishes and Silver drawer knobs - Kaisercraft

Edges Stamp Set - Kaisercraft

I also used Glossy Accents. black acrylic paint, metal label holder and brads and wood glue.

I swapped the fussy cutting of flowers for a metal label holder, and printed the lettering to go inside in my computer. I also added a metal key to match.

It was good fun to make this box up, the drawers are a little tricky to get them to look neat but very effective when complete.

Dublin 2014

We had a 12 hour crop at Cardinal Colours last weekend with a great set of crafty girls. I made up some kits to work on during the day and I used a Page Map as a source of inspiration for this one.

The photos were taken by Alan of Catherine and me, when we first arrived in Dublin last summer. We were exploring the city along by the River Liffey - such a lovely day.

The Agatha Christie Co.

This month over on Scrapology Anita has chosen this stunning layout by American scrapbooker Larua Vegas for us to scraplift.

My layout shows Catherine as Deputy Stage Manager for the Agatha Christie Co. together with the Company Manager and the Actors. This was the last week of the tour for 2014 and the photo was taken at Derby in at the end of November. She has a few weeks off now before starting rehearsals for the next play with a new group of actors.

Cake CSI #72

The famous 21st birthday cake needs to be recorded! - so it now features on two layouts (one in black and white which I can't show you yet, but will be revealed in June), and this one I have created for this week's CSI challenge (#72).

 

Here is what was required to crack solve the mystery this time (more details on the site):

This is what I chose to include:

The Scheme - I used all the colours
Krafted - Kraft Bazzill as by background
Bottle Green - in the Scenic Route and My Mind's Eye papers, Chalk Mist on background and the flowers (which were grey - an old Prima purchase which was gathering dust!), also the distress stain and ink used on letters (Basic Grey Chipboard alphabets stickers, painted with acrylic paint and sprayed, then inked) and numbers (American Crafts Foam Thickers).
Yellowed Pages - from the MME papers.
Olive Oil -  Also from the same papers and the leaves.
Toasted Baguette - From the papers.

Evidence - I have used:
A doily.
Book page print on the Tim Holtz paper used to create the heart.
Labels cut from the MME (The Sweetest Thing - Tangerine) Event / Place / Date details and used for hidden journalling.
Leafy vines - the Prima vine.
Drawing - I drew in white gel pen round a lacy border I made with a Martha Stewart Punch Around the Page punch set and an sheet of spare 12" x 12" paper. I also used this as a template to draw the same pattern around the heart. I drew in some black lines free hand around the border and the heart.
Metal - Book plate Tim Holtz for the '21'.
Kraft Background - Kraft Bazzill - spritzed (chalk mists) and splats (distress stains) and doodled on.rote my journalling on a series of stacked labels, cut from 'Tangello' Greetings Paper MME. They are tucked under the photo and can be pulled out to read.

Testimony - Write your journalling on a series of stacked labels.
My journalling (written on the labels and tucked under the photo) tells of the day we celebrated the triplet's 21st birthday - 31.03.13. The photo only shows the girls as Andrew is away in America.  We were at my brother's flat and he made a lovely lunch for us all (he is also waiting for his lovely Elaine to get home from Brazil). The cake I made was in 7 layers, each one a different colour of the rainbow, so it was very tall, and covered in a white icing. I also made a second lactose free cake for Emily.
