Father's Day

Here is my layout created at the Papermaze crop last weekend. As the papers were ideal for a masculine theme, I decided to create another page for my Dad's memory album. The photo was taken last month on Father's day.

Janet had designed the layout for this month and Louise had created an alternative. I love fonts and really liked the alphabet stamps used in Louise's version. I am also enjoying spray mists and layering so my layout was based more on Lou's design.

the kit contained:
Glitz Design 'Truly Yours' Motif paper, Brown and Aqua cardstock,  2 Kraft tags, Technique Tuesday Journalling card, Aqua Twine, Assorted wooden embellishments and Aqua Washi Tape.

with use of:
Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain Distress Ink
Melted Chocolate Dylusions Ink Spray

I added:
Thickers alphabet stickers from American Crafts
Some scraps of papers left over from last month's kit behind the tears and for stamping on.
Lili of the Valley Father's day greetings stamp.

Three Generations / Six Generations CSI Challenge # 43

For this weeks CSI challenge I have been working with this photo of my ancestors.

There are three generations shown here and and one element of the challenge was to use an older photo and tie the past together with the present in your journalling. So the writing explains the family link between the folk in the photo and then goes on to explain how the family now has a further three generations (see below). My journalling is framed which was another element and I have hidden it under the photo, which folds open to show my scribbles and a family tree.

These are the colours for this weeks challenge:  Black Tie Event, Lemon Chiffon,  Green Grace,  Alabaster Elegance & Fancy Foliage.

I used these evidence elements:

Damask - the Glitz Design paper from the Love Games collection.
Ribbons - ribbon with shell and bead trimming and tape measure tape.
Frame -  black Bazzill frame cut with Marianne Designs Die used behind photo for journalling.
Foliage - and flowers cut with various punches and Marianne Dies in green Bazzill and Basic Grey papers.
Something transparent  -   Acetate film strip.
Patterned brad - Basic Grey
Flourishes - cut with Marianne die and Green Bazzill
A Black-and-white patterned paper - The Glitz Design paper.

Here is my journalling, visible by opening up the hinged photo. It reads:

"This photo shows three generations of the family. My mother Mary Holder is the little girl on the far right. Next to here is her cousin Patricia Coppin. Next to Pat is her mother Gladys (Humm) Coppin. In the big chair is Gladys' mother Susan (Dunn) Humm. At the far left is Susan's eldest daughter Winifred    (Humm) Holder (Mary's mother and my grandmother).
They are all sitting in the garden of 'The Bird In Hand' Public House, where Gladys and her husband Charles and Pat lived at the time. Bickley near Bromley.
Today Mary is a great grandmother to two (Jamie and Jessica Prior), grandmother to five Mark and Sam Prior, Andrew, Emily and Catherine Cooper) and mother to three Lynn (me), Sylvia and Robert Banks."
Then I drew a basic family tree to explain the links.

Other items used are Serendipity papers by Basic Grey (green and yellow)
Crate Paper - Portrait Collection - Honeymoon and sticker border
Tim Holtz Distress Stains - Black soot and Shabby Shutters
Bazzill - Black and green
Flat Backed pearls and gems
Perfect Pearls
Paper blossoms - Wild Orchid Crafts
Sticker '3' from a sheet by Echo Park
American Crafts - Alphabet stickers
Martha Stewart - Round the page punch - Cherish
Lots of chalk and distress inks.

Another great challenge, this week.
Thanks for looking.

Fortune Teller

This is my layout for the February Scrapology Challenge.

This month's challenge was to scraplift this clever layout by SJ, it was a class she taught at the Cardinal Colours Retreat last year.

This is the Scrapology sketch

I used a pad of  8"x8" papers from Glitz Design called Love Games, which is the same as was used in SJ's original, but I picked out the black, white and red papers to go with my playing card theme.

Love Games *On Sale!

I cut and inked 16 pieces 3" x 3" and arranged them onto a plain piece of 12" x12" cardstock.
Then I cut and inked four card game shapes from scraps of the patterned papers. and added these to four of the squares. I used the Sure Cuts A Lot programme for the Cricut.

I mounted the photo onto some dark grey cardstock and arranged onto the layout. I tucked two fans of four mini playing cards (from a cracker) into position as seen.  I added some large cross stitches in red DMC thread.  Lastly I added the title using Lush black velvet letters.

The photo is my Dad back in the 1950's dressed up for a photo shoot with his friend.

Hop over to Scrapology to see the full details of the challenge for February.

Beautiful Beryl

We have just returned from a lovely long weekend visiting Alan's cousin Beryl who lives in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. We were very busy discovering both ends of the Sapperton Tunnel on the Severn Thames Canal (more of this in another post). We also spent a great day visiting friends in Worcestershire.

While we were with Beryl we spent some time working on the family tree, something I have neglected to do lately. Beryl gave me this favourite photograph of herself, to scan in and add it to the tree. I also printed out a copy and was pleased with the results. It was taken around 1948 to 1950.

While at the Cardinal Colours Retreat last month I helped out with SJ's classes and one of them was this patchwork class using Glitz Design papers (8"x8" paper pad) from the Love Games collection. The base is Kraft Bazzill, the squares of patterned papers are 3" x 3" squares, with a few cross stitches added here and there. The hearts were punched and the flowers cut free-hand, crumpled, inked and with hand drawn stitches. I started the layout at the retreat but without a photo, Beryl's picture seemed the perfect thing.

Letter stickers - Prima
Gems - Giant Rhinestones - Glitz
I added two silver decorative pins

Here is SJs original layout:

Before You Go!

A layout I made after the Cardinal Colours retreat.
Together with Linda, I assisted in SJ's class when she taught this page, but brought my kit home to play afterwards.
The class was called 'White Space'.

The glazed Bazzill cardstock is spritzed with two colours of Tattered Angel glimmer mists, then the xcess mopped up to show off the glazed pattern.
Patterned papers are from an 8"x8" pad by Glitz Designs, from a collection called 'Afternoon Muse'. The flowers were cut from these papers and the patterned strips were cut and trimmed with border punches.
The text photo mat was taken from an old gardening text book, crumpled, torn and inked.
The green glittery alphabet stickers are from K and Co.
I used a random selection of buttons from my stash.
The tag s made from patterned paper, it has hidden journalling and is attached with butcher's twine.

Most of these items are still available from Cardinal Colours.

My photo was taken on the day before my daughter Emily returned to Nottingham for her second year of university. The journalling tells of how I wanted one last photo before she went away again. She is pictured with her treasured possessions as a student of creative and professional writing - her notebook / diary, kindle, Filofax and beloved camera.
Missing you Emily x
