Mellennium Fun With Paint and Glass

The Journey for Change Challenge is still running on FTLOPP facebook group, and here is my answer to challenge #8 - Moving with the Times. So to make a layout with moving parts. I have chosen to make a folder to hold some newspaper reports and my journalling.

I started scrapping this photo some years ago and it has been unfinished in my craft room since. When I found it I decided to start again and usie it for this challenge.

Back in 2000, I was asked if I could design a stained glass window to go in the school hall. There was an old one put in when the school was built, but an extension meant there would be a similar window at the other end of the hall. So I set about designing the window, and ended up painting it with glass paints and the help of two other parents. Luckily we were able to do this before the panels were installed. 

With some Colour Study papers from Vicki Boutin's collection I made a folder for the cuttings. I used some mini tags from Doodlebug Designs Inc. I tied these together with some twine.

The letter stickers were also from Doodlebug Designs Inc.

Beautiful Beach

Here is my third layout using the Papermaze kit for February. This time I have used the teal / turquoise / aqua papers and Vanessa's exclusive Cutfile from the kit.

The photo for this layout was taken on our first trip to the Western Isles, the beaches are beautiful beaches look tropical. This is on Harris - Seilebost Beach.

C.S.I. #32

Here is my second attempt at the C.S.I. (Colour Stories, Inspiration) challenge

I'm away from home still but wanted to have a go at this cool colour combination challenge #32.

My page records a cycle ride Alan and I enjoyed, despite the cold wind, from Thropeness to Aldeburgh earlier this year. We stopped to take a closer look at the Scallop Shell sculpture on the beach.

I have highlighted in blue the elements I chose to include, and what I used:

Again I have highlighted in blue the elements I have included. 

Document a beach trip (or other vacation if you've never been to the sea).

Journal about something you collect.
Create a translucent pocket or envelope for your journaling - Journalling on Vellum
Document a transformation (inspired by the broken glass that turns into a beautiful treasure).
Use the first stanza of William Blake's poem as a jumping off point for your journaling:

To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.

My journalling reads:

 'Conversation with the Sea'

"On the beach between Aldeburgh and
Thorpeness, in Suffolk stands Maggi
Hambling's sculpture celebrating the
British composer Benjamin Britten, who
often walked along this beach. It was
unveiled in 2003

Created from 10mm stainless steel, it
stands 4.10m high x 4.60m x 4.25m. It
is made up of two interlocking scallop
shells, each broken, the upright shell

 The sculpture is intended to be enjoyed

Beach Grass - light brown, from the darker parts of the beach grass
Sand Dune - light kraft, from the lighter parts of the beach grass
Wave Washed - teal, taken from the side of the oblong piece of sea glass near the front of the image robot
Sea Glass - light aqua, taken from the bottom part of the topmost piece of sea glass

Up-date on 22/08/12 I have just visited the C.S.I. site and was amazed to see I made the 'On The Watch List' - described as ...and just because there were too many fantastic layouts in the gallery, here are a few more that caught our eye. Not 'Star Witness' or 'Most Wanted' but its great to be acknowledged.

Fused Glass Workshop

As part of the Art Scilly week, I attended the Phoenix Stained Glass Studio, on St Mary's for a class with Oriel Hicks to work with fusing glass using the kiln. A rare opportunity because the kiln is in use at all other times, and not available for classes. I learnt to cut glass, design and make a coaster, a Christmas decoration, a sun catcher and a piece jewellery using coloured and clear glass. I was amazed to manage four items in the three hour class.

This is my wave, which I intend to hang in the window and will photograph again with the light shining through it.

I made a coaster with scraps of glass in rainbow colours and some fine black frit.

A pendant made with fusing glass pieces and very fine glass rods.

A Christmas tree decoration.

Sadly some of my tree's triangles didn't stay in shape, but I'm still pleased with what I made. I learnt a great deal in this class and would love to return if time allows this week to make something the Tiffany Glass workshop.

Alan says he might join me too.
