Birds of a Feather

This month's Papermaze crop kit was designed by Jacqui Noon. We had great fun finger painting and working with this lovely Dina Wakley Scribbly Birds stamp set.

I chose this cheerful photo of Linda, myself, Anita ans Sue on a crafty chopping trip in Sussex a few years ago.

We used a selection of Dylusions acrylic paints together with a sheet of Kaisercraft Costal Eacape - Sea. I used the same title as Jacqui as is applied to my photo. I used some Basic Grey alphabet stickers which were white and inked them with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink.

Thanks to Jacqui for the inspiration - great to try something new.

Winnie

The lovely Anita designed a class layout using Kaisercraft Violet Crush papers a while ago. This is what I made with her kit.

I cut my title on the Cricut with the Winter Woodland cartridge. Some of the flowers are layered with 3D foam and gloss added with Glossy Accents. I added some lilac flat-backed pearls. The butterflies have Stickles added for sparkle!

This is another of my family ancestor photos. - Winifred J. Holder known as Winnie (born 1913, married to Jack Taylor in Bromley in 1935) was the eldest daughter of my Great Uncle Walter Frederick Holder, known as Chum or Chummy (b1886) and his wife Ethel Rosina (nee Fuller, 1888 - 1955) married in 1910. All lived in the Bromley area. Peggy's younger sister was called Margaret E. Holder known as Peggy (born 1919).

Flight Lieutenant Kenneth Banks

This is my version of Anita's class page from the Cardinal Colours weekend crop back in March. I was lucky enough to make at a recent crop as I had been too busy at the weekend. The photo is my great uncle Flight Lieutenant Kenneth James Banks. The title using one of the labels on the papers has been changed to bear the motto of his Squadron 'Danger is our Opportunity'.

Kenneth was 21 when he died on 29th May 1945, having survived the WWII as a pilot. He crashed his Spitfire into the stained glass window of a church in Yorkshire. The more detailed journalling is written on the tag which is hidden under the photo which acts as a pocket.

The papers are Bo Bunny's Serenade collection. I used some tiny hole-less beads on the poppy centres and some Swirlydoo butterflies, glittered up with Stickles.

Our Wedding - Anita's Class

Here is my version of a class taught by my talented friend Anita using Prima's Almanac Collection of 12 x 12 double sided papers. The lettering and journalling block, images punched border are all from this paper collection. The technique was to make the decorative beaded pins. The kit included beads, pearls and gems.

The butterfuly was downloaded from Swirlydoos, printed, cut out and glittered with stickles.

1950's Style

Here are my Mum and Dad, on holiday with my Nan and Grandad back in the mid 1950's before they were married in 1957. These photos were taken at St. Mary's Bay in Kent.

This is another layout created from one of Anita's class kit designs - please see her original here. It is another project I completed at Debden in April.

The papers are from My Mind's Eye - Follow Your Heart - Be Amazing collection.
The kit included the flat backed pearls, twine and papers. We used a Martha Stewart punch for the butterflies.

Hexagons for Emily

This photo shows Emily when she first arrived home, she was two months premature (being one of triplets and was the smallest of the three). Here she is at about four weeks.

The layout is created with one of my lovely friend Anita's class kits. I made the layout while at out retreat at Debden back in April. Anita's original page can be found here.

The papers are from My Mind's Eye - Follow Your Heart - Be Happy collection. Ther letters are Sizzlets. The kit also contained gems and thick twine.
I added a little antique lace.

The Coopers Canvas

At the Cardinal Colours Spring Weekend Crop I took Anita's super canvas class. Please see Anita's blog for more details. As always an excellent value for money class with some lovely ideas. The papers were My Mind's Eye and the canvas was 16" square.

Here is my finished canvas followed by a few close up shots to show the different techniques involved.

The photos were from a professional studio where we attended for a family photo shoot in 2003.

The colours of this layout are prefect in my dining room.

Happy Birthday Anita!

We celebrated the birthday of my dear friend and fellow crafter Anita at our recent crop held at Cardinal Colours. It's not her birthday until next week, but thought I would share this with you.

I made Anita a twisted easel card using a 6" x 6" K and Co. paper pad and a Craftwork Cards card blank. They seemed perfect for this spring birthday.

A Lili of the Valley stamp

The flowers were from a Godiva Easter egg, I added decorative pins, punched leaves, ribbon roses, organza ribbon and glitter.

Lots of flat backed pearls in yellow and flat backed gems in green.

I coloured the image with Promarkers

honeycomb, apricot, oatmeal, ivory, buttercup, lemon, tulip, pastel blue, apple, leaf, bright green, cinnamon, gold cool grey 1, dusky pink, metallic silver and the blender.

The image was stamped onto digital quality white card with Memento ink. The card and Bazzill mount were cut with the Lacy Labels cartridge and the Cricut.

I'm entering this card into The Passion for Promarker's Yellow and Pearls challenge 140.

I also made Anita one of my calico aprons and this is what her name looks line on the front.

True Friends Are Priceless Treasures

The Blossom Babes at or Debden retreat 2011

Karen took this photo and Anita took one which included Karen, so I cut and pasted Karen into the space she had been standing in before being photographer!

Over on the Scrapology blog this month we scraplifted a layout by DT member Anita.

This is her beautiful original layout and the sketch.

These are the Bo Bunny's Garden Girl Collection

papers we used:

Die Cut

Garden Girl 

Cut Outs 

First of all the 'Die Cut' sheet had to be prepared, by cutting along the thick brown inner line. You are left with a scalloped frame and an orange square with decorative corners.

Stick the frame piece centrally onto the purple cardstock.

Build up the centre with double sided foam tape, and stick the orange piece back in position. 

Lots of careful cutting of the 'Cut Outs' helped to make a decorative surround for the photo. Cut a quote for the top right hand corner of the layout.

I wanted slightly different words to those on the wide strip Anita used, so I used my computer and a font called Rivanna, I used two sizes and colours. First of all I cut the two butterflies and all the flowers I needed from the floral side of the 'Garden Girl' paper, then I printed onto a strip of the green side.

True friends are priceless treasures

Now take the butterflies and flowers, carefully ink and curve with scissors and add to layout with 3D foam pads as shown on the photo.

Then the fun begins, add tons of glitter with the stickles!
I also added flower stamen to the butterflies for antennae.

March Scrapology Challenge Layout

Here is my layout for this month's design team on Scrapology, using this photo of sweet little Esme from our visit to her and her mum Amy back in October last year.

The layout was made with these ingredients:
K & Company green letter stickers.
Prima pink songbird vine
Bo Bunny Love Bandit collection - Birdie die cut, Bee mine, Nuts 4 U.
Stampin’ Up Aviary stamp set.
Stampin’ Up ink pads in Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, Pool Party, Lucky Limeade and Rose Red.
Journalling block stamp - custom made
4 x 6” landscape photo
Stickles – crystal and lime green
Gems

Here is how I made the layout:
Gut the green side of ‘Bee Mine’ paper so you have a 12” x 12” - 1” frame, stick the ‘Birdie Die Cut’ sheet centrally over the green frame.

I Stamped bird cages in a variety of colours across the centre of the Die cut Sheet, add birds to the cages. Stamp more birds and cages onto smooth white card, and cut out leaving a fine white border around each image.

Using a Technique Tuesday Template, cut the outer shape from the pink side of ‘Be Mine’ and the inner, smaller shape from white side of ‘Nuts 4 U’.

Ink the edges and mount the white shape centrally onto the pink shape. Build this up with 3D foam pads and mount into the centre of the layout. Mount photo onto a piece of the green side of ‘Nuts 4U’. Mount the photo towards the top of the Big shape.

Stamp a circular Journalling block and mount this onto a circle of green paper. Add the journalling details and stick to the top right of the layout overlapping the photo slightly with 3D foam pads. Arrange a selection of bird cages around the journalingl block, some raised and some directly onto the layout.

Arrange the vine down the left side of the layout. Add a cage to the top branch so it appears to be hanging from the vine. Trim off a couple of flowers and add to the journaling block..

Add title with the glitter stickers under the photo. Then add stickles and gems to the cages and flowers.

Frame that Family!

At our recent Cardinal Colours Crop, I took the talented Anita's Family Frame class.
It made a lovely change from making a layout. We used this white wooden frame measuring 11" x 9.5". Anita provided some swirly stamps and black Staz-On to stamp on the 'Family' cut out section of the frame, which helped to make the word stand out.

It is rare to get a picture of all of our family together these days now that Andrew, Catherine and Emily are all away at Uni. This photo was taken at my nephew's wedding back in July this year.

The lovely papers are My Minds Eye and the Lost and Found II collection, they are double sided and extremely glittery. I used some old Provo Craft letter stickers to add the date. We made paper spiral roses from left over scraps and added some flat backed gems to finish the frame off.

Or Silent Night, Holy Night

I have been playing with some favourite products, Promarkers, some Stampin' Up goodies and my Lili of the Valley Christmas stamps and trying to get some Christmas Cards made.

 I managed to take this photo before it became too dark, but I think this will need taking again in brighter light tomorrow. I added lots of sparkle with stickles in different colours to the wings, dresses, clouds and stars. My swirls are made from Prima gems, so they sparkle too. Not sure the full extent of the sparkle effect shows on the photo.

Rainbow Stripes with the triplets

Here is another layout made with a kit I brought home from Jill's Cardinal Colours Retreat. The class was designed and taught by the lovely Anita and you can see more details of the class on the Calendar of Colours blog. I finally got around to making this layout at Jill's crop last weekend.

The photograph was taken by my daughter Catherine, on her mobile phone, when she visited the triplets with her sister back in September.

The papers are Echo Park Summer Days collection, the kit included Alpha Stickers, Journalling Cards, Die Cut, Rainbow and Borders. Red and white baker's twine.

The papers reflect Heather's (the triplets mum) love of colourful stripes.

Zoe lent me her Stampin' Up Banner Builder punch and gave me these fantastic colourful buttons. Thanks Zoe.

Family Heritage Canvas

This canvas was designed by the very talented Anita for the Cardinal Colours Retreat this last weekend.

I made my version of the canvas before the retreat so I could assist Anita in her class, we had a mini class so we knew how it went! See Anita's blog entry about this class HERE.

I chose this treasured photograph of my Grandfather together with his thirteen siblings and his parents, taken in the back garden of their two up, two down terraced house in Bromley (and we say we don't have enough room!) The occasion was his brother Frank's Wedding. For the mini frames I cropped images from the main photo, they are of - left to right: Frank the groom, Ernest (Grandad), Frederick Holder (Great Grandad) and Florence Emma Jane (Great Grandmother) 1911.

A canvas class with Anita MacDonald

Using beautiful papers from the BoBunny Timepiece Range.

A large 40 cm x 40 cm canvas 

class includes some distressing, spritzing, ripping and a little beading.

Class requirements:

Standard tools and adhesives, Foam pads or silicone glue (for raising elements)

Dark Brown Ink Pad

A foam painting pad will be supplied but please bring along a 1 – 2” bristle brush if you prefer

7 x 5 Landscape photo ( or two 6 x 4 portrait) and also two 1.5” x 1.5” photos

This class would be suitable for Heritage, Family, Wedding or First Home theme.

I think this is a wonderful way to record a bit of family history, and rather than being tucked away in an album it's on the wall for all to see. Quite a conversation piece too.

I added some Glossy Accents to my clock faces to make them look like glass.
